You don’t need to imagine humanoids having fluent discussions to understand that Artificial Intelligence is already being used on practical applications that we can use on a daily basis. For example, there are many practical cases regarding G Suite, that we shall see below:

When we think of Artificial Intelligence, we often set the bar too high, imagining future situations in which computers do things that we have seen in science fiction movies.

But you don’t have to take things that far to understand that Artificial Intelligence is already applied in a practical manner in our daily lives. As you can imagine, Google has been researching how to apply artificial intelligence for more than a decade, and the progress made is gradually enhancing its products and services.

Innovative uses of G Suite

    • Instant translation of texts and images: Its instant translation application translates everything you say into another language so you can communicate fluently. In addition, Word Lens translates text contained in images in real time.
    • Allo, Google’s smart messaging app: launched towards the end of last September, it has been conceived both as a messaging platform and as a source of information when you need to make a query in parallel to Google’s know-all. The “Smart Response” option also allows you to reply to messages with a single touch of the screen, displaying suggestions provided by the system.
    • Smart response system: This system automatically generates replies to emails that simply need a quick reply. More than 10 percent of the replies from mobile devices today are generated using this functionality. Its acceptance has been so spectacular, that it has encouraged them to continue on this path with a view to applying artificial intelligence to its suite of tools to solve customers’ day-to-day situations. The following points are excellent examples:
    • Intelligent Storage: Our documents are stored in Google Drive or on Android, in such a way that Quick Access provides access to the most relevant files depending on the work you are doing. How does it decide? It analyses your interaction with co-workers, on-line meetings, or your activity on Drive. Therefore, by applying intelligence to the rhythm of your daily work, you are offered documents before you even request them. Google’s research indicates that this feature saves no less than 50% of the time normally dedicated by an employee to searching for a specific file.
    • Smart Calendar: When you want to find a gap in your agenda for a meeting with colleagues, Google Calendar applies smart technologies to locate those gaps where all the people involved will be available, and even propose available meeting venues based on preferences from previous meetings. If no gaps are available for everyone, it will suggest times when it may be easiest to solve the problem of conflicting agendas.
    • Spreadsheets also benefit from this technology: Many users do not understand how to use formulas on a spreadsheet at all. Therefore, you can use natural language processing so that Google Sheets can translate a question into a formula and display the answer immediately.
    • Wavenet: another system from Google’s artificial intelligence division (known as DeepMind), consisting of a machine that produces human voices, the most realistic to date although not yet able to replace real human speech. It is a very interesting path, given the proliferation of bots and personal assistants such as Siri, Cortana, AI, or Google Assistant, to mention just a few from various manufacturers.
    • Google Assistant: This system made its debut with the introduction of the new generation of Pixel mobile phones designed to replace the Nexus. This personal assistant, which has replaced Google Now, has a great ally: the Google search engine. A database that allows it to interact with users more directly. In addition, it will remember conversations and preferences, which, over time, will enable it to become an effective ally.

The examples do not end here; you can find more in Google Docs, Google Slides, Team Drives, in the new experiences with Google Hangouts, etc. The goal is always to provide the best user experience and boost individual and team productivity.

If you would like more in-depth knowledge of these Artificial Intelligence technologies applied to Google and see how they can benefit your daily life, at Intelligence Partner we would be delighted to explain them to you in more detail.
