The Google Enterprise Doc team is upgrading the Help Center for Google Apps administrators with a new look, improved organization, and simplified content. Google released their initial upgrades on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, localized in 17 languages. See below for details and a preview!
An engaging new look
The upgraded Help Center features the new look recently adopted by other Google Help Centers. It begins with the home page, which is cleaner, more engaging, and easier to browse. As before, you can get to this page at the web address support.google.com/a. This will also be the page you arrive at if you visit support.googleapps.com (and will replace the support page currently at that address).
While much of the home page content is organized as before, Google have made a few topics easier to find. For example, help on migrating mail is now with other Setup and deployment topics, and popular topics like using mobile devices or Outlook are available from the home page, as well.
A more guided experience
Finding and discovering information should also be easier. Rather than a simple list of links on topic pages, you’ll now find helpful introductions and an organized table-of-contents. New vs. old Domains page
Google understand that some of their help has been text oriented and technical, while most customers would prefer to just quickly understand what they need to know for their business. As such, Google ha’ve revised many topics to be more visual, easier to read, and focused on actual customer use cases.
Deployment site, Learning center, and Release calendar
The new Help Center no longer features links in the top navigation bar to the Deployment site, Learning center, and What’s new sites. However, it’s still easy to reach these sites from the Help Center home page. For example, to reach the Deployment site and Learning center, look under Setup and deployment: You can also reach these sites by scrolling down to the feature carousel at the bottom of the home page. Once you arrive, you’ll find the sites are the same as before except for small changes to match the new look.
Works great on your mobile!
To get help with Google Apps while you’re on the go, visit Apps help from your mobile device. Just open your mobile browser and go to support.google.com/a.
What’s not changing
You will continue to reach the help center at its current web address: support.google.com/a.
You can still reach the learning center, deployment sites, and release calendar at their existing web addresses, learn.googleapps.com,deployment.googleapps.com, and whatsnew.googleapps.com.
All links to existing help content will continue to access appropriate content.
Improvements are ongoing
Initially, Google focused our efforts on simplifying help for domains and web addresses, DNS records, administrator privileges, applying policies to different users, and other potentially sticky topics for customers. Follow these links to see! During upcoming monthsGoogle will continue efforts to improve help for Gmail and the other core Google apps.
